In the heart of Madera, Chihuahua, one of the Sotol distilling capitals of Mexico - a distiller prepares the pit for piƱas to be cooked. This image captures the grit and labor of love in order to create one of Mexico's ancient spirits, Sotol.

 

Part of Michael Orso's "The Spirit of Mexico" exhibition showing around the United States and debuting at the Durango City Museum of Contemporary Arts.
